Once upon a time there was a little boy named Sammy. Sammy had 4 older siblings and 3 younger sisters. Sammy was an intense perfectionist and found schoolwork tedious and frustrating. He was happiest outside adventuring with his older brothers and sisters for hours on end or hunting for eggs from our handful of free-range chickens. He found tremendous joy in a garden tomato or a huge watermelon that he helped grow. When he was 8, he got his first turkeys for a 4-H state fair project. He was hooked!!
When the world shut down in 2020, Sammy was 13. He had already decided to get some laying hens that spring, but with more time at home, he jumped in with gusto. He raised 40 layers, a handful of Thanksgiving turkeys and one batch of 25 meat chickens. Green Eggs and Sam Farm was born.
Starting a farm at 13 or 30 is not without its challenges…and expenses. Sammy, now called “Sam”… has met every obstacle with passion and determination. We’ll share some of that journey here on this blog over the next few weeks and sprinkle in some pictures so you can see how Green Eggs and Sam Farm and its owner have grown over the past 3 years.
You can’t be a farmer without loving work. You can’t be a farmer if you think you should earn a certain amount of $$ for every hour worked. You can’t be a farmer if you want someone else to tell you what to do next. You can’t be a farmer if you can’t adapt to surprises and changed plans. You can’t be a farmer if you prefer to be inside on a rainy day…or an icy day…or a blazing hot day. God bless the farmers!
Welcome to Green Eggs & Sam Farm! We’re so glad you’ve joined us on this journey and we’re so thankful for your support! There really is nothing like knowing where your food is coming from and knowing the animals live outside breathing fresh air, eating bugs and fresh grass and being treated right as God intended! We’re glad you’re part of our community!
Much more to come…
